SigEp Is Different...

National Philosophy

SigEp is dedicated to building balanced leaders for the world's communities and is the nation's largest fraternity with over 14,000 undergraduates at 260 chapters. More than 255,000 men have joined SigEp since its founding on November 1, 1901, in Richmond, Virginia.

So that we may better achieve our mission, we at Emory University uphold the ideals of the Balanced Man.  As such, we incorporate a strict no pledging, no hazing policy into our recruitment.

The Pursuit of The Balanced Man Ideal

"SigEp doesn’t break you down to build you back up, we take the best and make them better."

Instead of traditional pledging, all members participate in a set of challenges throughout their four years at Emory that promote living your best life through social programming, cultural and community activities, intramural sports, professional and leadership development, mentoring, and academic enrichment:

Challenges:

Sigma Challenge:
building the bonds of brotherhood and setting up for success at Emory.

Phi Challenge: developing leadership skills, etiquette, and interacting with faculty.

Epsilon Challenge: tackling leadership positions in and out of SigEp; cultural enrichment.

Brother Mentor Challenge:  developing professional skills and connections for post-college.

Leadership Development:

We also take part in the Nationally sponsored Leadership Continuum which consists of four retreats:

*EDGE: Regional New Member Retreat

*Carlson Leadership Academy: Elected officers develop key life skills and learn the best practices to lead their chapter to excellence.

*Ruck Leadership Institute: Our most talented brothers learn how the few can impact the many, inside and out of the chapter.

*Tragos Quest to Greece: The best of the best take a 10 day, all-expense paid trip to explore the origins of the Balanced Man Ideal in Greece

We have had brothers complete EDGE, the CLA, and Ruck in the past year and are planning to send at least one brother on the Quest to Greece in the coming year.
